Bishnupriya Manipuri in Barak Valley to hold 101 hr Rail blockade
A 101 hr rail blockade has been declared by five major Bishnupuria Organisations starting from December 21 in Barak valley to demand reservation of seats in the assembly and in the Lok Sabha for their community.
According to Subal Sinha, President of All India Bishnupriya Manipuri People’s Mahasabha they have total seven demands for which this protest has been initiated and that on December 16 the organization will also hold a bike rally in Silchar in continuation with their protest.
Other than reservations in Assembly, the organization demanded for programmes in Bishnupriya Manipuri language in All India Radio and to air those programmes in Silchar, Guwahati and Agartala where people of the community resides, the establishment of separate Bishnupriya Manipuri language department in all Universities, nominations in the Union Public service Commission, Assam and Gauhati Universities and appointment of teachers who are qualified in Bishnupriya Manipuri language.
The name of the five Bishnupuria Manipuri organizations are All India Bishnupriya Manipuri People’s Mahasabha, Nikhil Bishnupriya Manipuri Students’ Union, Bishnupriya Manipuri Ganasangram Parishad, Bishnupriya Manipuri Ex-servicemen’s Organisation and Bishnupriya Manipuri Mahila Sanstha.
Majority of the Bishnupriya Manipuri lives in Barak Valley region and the entire community living in every part of Northeast has protested earlier in Jantar Mantar also raising the same demands.
